International Youth Choir & Dance Festival

A galaxy of colorful choir, dance, and instrumental ensembles will be
in concert throughout the Little Traverse Bay area. Bring the entire family
and make new friends from far-away places.
About the Festival:
The Children of the World in Harmony Festival will be presented in the
Little Traverse Bay area of Northern Michigan from July 28 to August 2,
2009. Choirs and dance ensembles from Mongolia, China, Mexico, Kenya,
the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, and Vietnam will be represented.
Additionally, the Voices Without Borders Festival Choir will be formed.
This 75-voice choir brings together young singers to share the joy of
singing and to promote peace and understanding through music.
Festival History:
Previous Children of the World in Harmony Festivals have been presented
in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. A festival planning committee
that is representative of the Little Traverse Bay and Northern Michigan
area has been established to present the 2009 festival.
Festival Mission:
The mission of the festival is to promote appreciation for and understanding
of children’s and youth choral singing and dancing of the highest
quality and to develop international friendship and understanding through
choral music, dance and the other performing arts.
Festival Objectives:
• To present to the Little Traverse Bay and Northern Michigan community
some of the finest children’s and youth choirs and dance ensembles
from around the world
• To involve the Little Traverse Bay and northern Michigan area
in the joy of opening their community and their homes to young people
from around the world in a gesture of friendship and understanding
• To bring together children and youth choirs and other performing
groups from around the world in order to share music and dance, exchange
cultural ideas and experiences, and promote peace and understanding among
the participants
• To create an opportunity for dialogue through joint concerts,
social activities and home stays
