Choir Tours

When young people come together in song and dance and exchange cultural ideas and experiences, they quickly learn their similarities far outweigh their differences.

In June, 2013, the Great Lakes Youth Choir, under the direction of Ms. Heather Russell, embarked on its first international tour to French-speaking Canada! The 32-member choir, ages 12-18 from a variety of towns in northern Michigan, performed concerts in Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City & Elmira, N.Y., sometimes joined by the Canadian host choirs. They had the distinct honor of singing at the Parliament of Canada, in Ottawa.

In June, 2016, the Great Lakes Youth Choir under the direction of Mr. Owen James presented "A Journey in Song", a musical trip around the world to audiences in Petoskey, Indian River, Mackinaw City and Traverse City.

In June 2018, the Great Lakes Youth Choir traveled on its second international tour, this time to Ireland and Scotland! GLYC performed in the Dublin Choral Festival. GLYC was joined on tour for the Celebration of American Music in Ireland and Scotland by dancers from the Mid-Maryland Performing Arts Center and Dance Attack.

The Great Lakes Youth Choir has been honored to perform with the Northern Michigan Chorale, the Little Traverse Choral Society, the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus and Broadway singers, Sir Franc D'Ambrosio and Matthew Morrison. The choir was thrilled to accept an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in NYC in June, 2020. Unfortunately, that trip was cancelled due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The Great Lakes Treble Choir has performed with children around the world in the Children of the World in Harmony Festivals, the Northern Michigan Chorale, Treble With Chocolate, the Petoskey Downtown Open House, Cross Village Tree Lighting at Three Pines Studio, singing with Santa in Downtown Petoskey and at Stafford's Perry Hotel, Little Traverse Civic Theatre's 2015 production of Annie, First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs, and a variety of local concerts.
